Sands USA's "ArtTracker"
A PDA program for artists
that maintains a detailed listing of an individual's artwork.

A new program written for Palm Handhelds and designed specifically for visual artists is now available. It can keep track of and organize many details of an artist's artwork.

But here's the best part. It's not just an archive. If you update changes in the status of a piece, it can then sort--or what PDA users refer to as "filter"--your work into categories that you set up. For instance, if you have pieces in various galleries, competitions and the like, you can display just a certain venue--like a specific gallery. If you want to see how many pieces are unsold, or sold it can show you just these. You can also display only pieces needing framing, or re-working, or...whatever.

Another attribute I especially like is its "History" feature. It shows where a piece has been chronologically, and what has happened to it along the way. It updates this automatically at the tap of a button.

This program has an obvious appeal to artists who have a lot of work and active art careers, but I also see the value for artists just beginning to accumulate pieces. Keeping records of completed artwork can provide a sense of accomplishment and continuity. It 's encouraging to be able to see a growing track record.

If you have a Handheld device, or are looking for a good reason to get one, this may be it. You can download a free trial version from software creator Sands USA at:
